A business card case makes a great gift for anyone that uses business cards in their daily life. These card holders also make a fantastic motivational gift you can give your employees for completing that big project they’ve been working hard on. Because they are such good business gifts I thought I’d write an article talking about the types of cases that are available, how to personalized them, and a huge pitfall to avoid.

What type cases are available?

There are a basically two different types of cases available, portable cases or desktop card holders. This is the first decision you need to make. You should base it on what type of work the person does. Desktop card holders are better suited for people that mostly work in the office and portable cases work great for sales people or others that travel a lot.

Desktop business card holders are made of either a nice wood (such as maple) or made from glass. Either of these options can be personalized and make a great addition to ones desk.

Portable card cases come in two basic styles, Silver or Rosewood. Which one of these you choose is a personal choice. The silver cases have a classic look while the wood ones are a bit more elegant looking.

Personalizing a Business Card Case

Most card cases can be personalized and I recommend you do so. It adds that little something extra to the gift. The hard part of personalizing is you normally only have 25 characters to use. Here comes the pitfall:

Pitfall: Think very carefully about the message you choose to put on the item. You want it to be personal yet timeless. For this reason I never use company names, you want the person to be able to use the case no matter what company they work for. Also I very seldom use dates because they just invite the obvious question “What did you get that for?” and maybe the person doesn’t want to answer that over and over again. The moral of the story is, pick a timeless message, in most cases just their name will do.
